Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the services Salty Books can offer?

What's the process like?

We start with a conversation to better understand what your project is, where you're at in the process of writing it, and what you ultimately want for it. Then we develop a plan to deliver on that. That path can vary wildly depending on the type of project and the desired outcomes, but in general it goes something like this:

We'll be there every step of the way to answer questions, make suggestions, and support you as your book comes into the world.

What's the timeline like?

Honestly, that really depends on how ready and motivated you are, and what our bandwidth looks like. But we'll be completely upfront and transparent about what we can deliver on before you decide whether Salty Books is for you. There are some elements that we have little (or no) control over--like the length of time it takes to receive the first physical proof from the printer, or how long it takes the distribution systems to approve the files and uploads. Other pieces, we can move as quick as you'd like. Before you agree to anything, we'll hash it out and make sure it works for you.

Shortest we've ever released a book, 30 days. But everyone benefits from more breathing room.

Will you help me make a webpage?

As it happens, building webpages is one of the services we offer. We build efficient, inexpensive webpages, because not every page needs to be animated and cost $5,000 to build. Tell us more about what you'd like, and we're more than happy to give you an estimate.

If you want some samples, here are pages we've built:

Someone said you help with research, is that true?

Absolutely. We love to dig in and get our hands dirty on about any topic. Shoot us a message and we can chat.

Who distributes the books?

The simple answer is: Salty Books typically relies on Ingram. They're one of the largest book distributors in the world.

The more complicated answer is: it depends on what you want. Some people are perfectly happy with their book only living on Amazon. Others want to sell their books themselves, either through in-person events or at a store front they operate, or they have the means to ship and mail it themselves.

We're flexible and happy to meet whatever desire you have for distribution.

How do I pay you?

We like the split of 50% up front and 50% upon completion of services. We draw up a list of services you want, clearly lay out the costs, and then do simple math to divide them up. No sneaky charges or hidden fees or anything like that.

Do you offer any guarantees?

I wish I could say there were any guarantees in life. Here's what we can promise you:

You need someone to listen, someone to grasp what you're trying to achieve, someone to be realistic about what it takes to do this right.

We are the real deal. Our process is all human interaction, judgment calls, tough love, and hard truth. We'll stand by you and do our best. We truly throw ourselves into everything we do, and offer an entirely customized approach to each project.
